Understanding all of the different types of pricing information on shares can be daunting at first but it doesn’t need to be. This guide will help you to better understand what pricing information we provide, where it is provided and what it means, helping you to take an informed view on the value of your investments.
To ensure you have the most current market pricing information when you are placing an order, live pricing and market depth will always be available in the 'place an order' process during market hours. Live pricing is available on request in some online tools in Online Share Trading during market hours for NZX and ASX listed securities. You will be able to access this on demand by using the refresh icon if you have traded in the last 90 days.
Delayed pricing is the default pricing option used in Online Share Trading and is standard on the ASB Securities homepage. The time delay of prices is 20 mins during market hours.
Outside of the market operating hours, pricing is shown as the closing price and will include any after hours trading that has occurred. After hours pricing will be from the most recent trading day.
Order placement provides live pricing to ensure you are making your trading decision using the most up to date pricing information. You are also able to view the market depth, which will show you the bid, asking prices and quantities currently available on the market.

Watchlists by default provides you with delayed or after hours pricing. If live pricing is available to you, then current prices will be available on demand.

The portfolio will always provide you with delayed or after hours pricing. You are unable to obtain live prices using this feature.

The company search tool by default provides you with delayed or after hours pricing. Here you will find a wide range of specific pricing information to help you make an informed decision. If live pricing is available to you, then current prices will be available to you on demand.
Information available: Buy, Sell, Open, Prev close, Volume, T/O, Day high and low, 52 week high and low, Dividend CPS and yield, EPS, P/E ratio, NTA.
'Get a stock quote' gives you the ability to check market details on the go without logging into the Online Share Trading platform. You will have as much information provided to you as if you had logged in, you just won’t have the ability to obtain live prices.
Information available: Last, Movement, Open, Today High and Low, 52 week High and Low, Volume, and Turnover
Market summary provides you with the performance of index’s, market sectors, top volumes, top values, as well as biggest gains and biggest falls. These are updated during market hours. If outside of market hours the information shown will be from the most recent trading session.
Every piece of pricing information will have a time stamp with the date, time and time zone.
The highest and lowest price that shares have traded for over the course of the previous 52 weeks.
The highest buying price currently in the market.
The highest and lowest price that shares have traded for over the course of the day.
The most recently paid or announced dividend amount in cents per share (CPS).
The most recently paid or announced dividend yield or % of current share price.
Earnings per share, a ratio showing the portion of profit allocated to a share and generally a common indicator of profitability. EBITDAF/No. of shares.
The dollar value of shares traded over the course of the day.
The number of shares traded over the course of the day.
Net Tangible Assets shows the level of tangible assets that back a share.
The price the share opened at during the current trading day.
Price earnings ratio, measures its current price to its earnings value. Price/Earnings per share.
The price the share last traded at on the previous trading day.
The lowest selling price currently in the market.
Your current capital cost in the particular share. It takes into account profits and losses on previous trades to work out your capital investment in any security over the life of the amount.
