This is the latest entry in our Graduate Diaries series, highlighting some of the talented ASB Future Me graduates as they share their experiences progressing through the programme.

I started at ASB on the Future Me Graduate Programme just over 6 months ago, and writing this has just made me realise how much I have learnt since then. I have enjoyed all of my rotations so far, having had the opportunity to meet and work alongside so many great people in every team I’ve been part of.

Before I started on the Graduate Programme, I had heard how proud ASB were of their values. Now as an employee myself, I can see how ASB live and breathe these values every day.

One of ASB’s core values is Caring - ensuring that all employees have access to a vast range of materials and support. Within the graduate programme, you learn and develop your technical skill set to help you in the future. While technical skills are necessary in your day-to-day work, your personal development is given equal prominence too. As graduates, we get access to a range of mentors from manager level, up to head of and executive level. They are all there to help and guide you through your graduate journey.

ASB places a great deal of importance on community involvement and volunteering. Since I joined the programme, I have been involved in so many activities. I volunteered at the ASB stand during ASB Polyfest where I had the chance to promote the launch of a limited EFTPOS Polyfest Card. I also attended multiple All Blacks games volunteering during the DHL New Zealand Lions Series 2017. Prior to the series’ start, we were invited to a morning tea and had the privilege of meeting some of the players!

Another experience was attending the welcoming parade of Emirates Team New Zealand in Auckland. ASB is a key sponsor for Emirates Team New Zealand and we had the chance to watch them during the parade and to be close to the stage for their presentation – an amazing experience. I can never thank ASB enough for giving me the opportunity to attend those events. The feeling of helping the community and being a part of something bigger is an opportunity you would not get every day! I proudly represented ASB’s brand and will keep on doing so.

ASB is a strong advocate for diversity and inclusion. I joined the “Diversity and Inclusion” community shortly after I started on the programme and have been involved in various events. It’s amazing to see the support ASB provides to the LGBTI community and many others.

As of today, I am still early in the programme but my future is planned. Having the opportunity to rotate through different teams within the organisation is an incredible opportunity that I take seriously. I even have the chance to spend time with teams that are outside of rotations, helping me gain a better understanding of the organisation as a whole.

ASB graduate programme offers Graduates so many various opportunities and you are really pushed to take them on. I definitely think ASB has been the best place for me to start my career.
