For the third year running, ASB is a sponsor of the Auckland Diwali Festival – an important cultural event for the Indian community and a great celebration for the diversity of our city. Also known as the festival of lights, it’s an ancient Hindu religious festival celebrated around this time every year. The festival spiritually signifies the victory of light over darkness, knowledge over ignorance, good over evil, and hope over despair..

With tens of thousands of people attending each year, Diwali showcases some of the best in Indian music, food, dance and glamour!

This year Diwali is on 22 October with the festival formally beginning two days before the night of Diwali, and ending two days after. Like major festivals around the world, rituals and preparations for the Indian festival Diwali begin days or weeks in advance. The Auckland Diwali festival will be held at Aotea Square on 14-15 October, and the Wellington Diwali Festival will be held on the 23 October.

Diwali is a significant day for many ASB people and customers. It is a public holiday in India, Malaysia, Fiji, Sri Lanka and Singapore. Diwali is typically celebrated by decorating homes and businesses with lights and candles, distributing sweets and gifts, and fireworks displays.

Come down and celebrate with us!
