ASB Christchurch Marathon 2018: What’s happening on the day
29 May 2018 / Published in Your CommunityWith almost 5,000 entrants who will run a combined total of more than 265,000 kilometres, the 2018 ASB Christchurch Marathon is gearing up to be an exciting morning for thousands.
There is plenty of activity on the course to spur on runners and entertain supporters and our team will be there on the day!
The Hagley Hundred
Due to its popularity last year, we’re doing the Hagley Hundred once again. Participants running the full, half and 10km distances at the ASB Christchurch Marathon, can keep an eye out for THE HAGLEY 100.
In Hagley Park we will install timing pads across a 100m stretch of the course. The fastest man and woman over the 100m every 15 minutes (between 8am – 9.15am) will win a prize pack including a Sports Bag, Water Bottle, ASB St John in Schools First Aid Kit and a $300 Shoe Clinic Voucher. Race Weekend Activity
Look out for the ASB area in Cathedral Square, as well as much more. Here’s everything you need to know:
· Professional strapping and massage will be available for pre-race niggles on Saturday. If you are an ASB customer the massage is free. Simply show any ASB card or the mobile app. If you are not an ASB customer simply make any donation to the ASB Christchurch Marathon Charity Partner, RMHC.
· On race day, we’ll have 9 massage therapists offering 10 minute recovery massages. Free for ASB customers by showing any ASB card or the ASB Mobile App. If you’re not an ASB customer simply make any donation to the ASB Christchurch Marathon Charity Partner, RMHC.
· For the young ones participating in the Kids Marathon, we’ll have a station at the start line with free dress up merchandise for those running. Yellow tutus and super hero caps! There will even be a guest appearance by a very special elephant at the start of the 5 – 6 year olds race.
· We know it can be pretty cold waiting around as a supporter so we’ve got some special ASB Christchurch Marathon hand warmers that we’ll be handing out. We’ll also be handing out hot cups of Milo, which will be free to ASB customers. If you’re not an ASB customer simply make any donation to the ASB Christchurch Marathon Charity Partner, RMHC.
· To help cheer on friends and family near the finish line, we’ll have the ASB supporter station towards the last 200-300m of the course. We’ll be supplying free supporter merchandise including supporter posters, pens and thunder sticks to help with the final push!
