One of the benefits of an ASB Visa Platinum Rewards credit card is access to overseas travel insurance. This means that if your trip meets our activation criteria, it may be covered for a wide range of unexpected events.
We have been working with our current provider, AIG insurance, to update this policy from 1 March 2025. This includes updates to policy wording to make your cover easier to understand, and updates to policy activation and cover to improve your travel insurance experience.
AIG policy from 1 March 2025 |
Policy changes outlined
Key policy changes
Simplified language: We’ve rewritten the policy using more everyday language and less jargon to make it easier to understand.
Policy activation: You now only need to spend $500 or more (instead of 50%) of your pre-paid travel expenses on your ASB Visa Platinum Rewards credit card.
Cancellation and interruption: We’ve updated our cover for cancelled or interrupted trips to make it easier and faster to find the best solution. Customers should be aware that while resumption of travel is no longer covered, we now offer a more robust process around covered trips that have been cancelled before or during travel.
Lump sum benefits for accident and injury: Some of the lump sum values in this policy have changed. Be sure to read the full table in our updated policy document.
Extended trip cover: Trips longer than 90 days will not be covered under our policy. Extended trip cover can be purchased to activate return trips for longer durations.
Rental Vehicle Hire excess: Rental vehicle hire excess has changed from $3000 to $5000. Conditions and exclusions apply.
To review these changes and more, we recommend reading through the updated travel insurance policy in detail. You can find this at the bottom of this page, along with FAQs.
