Changes to the Visa Platinum credit card travel insurance provider

One of the benefits of an ASB Visa Platinum Rewards credit card is access to overseas travel insurance. This means if your trip meets our activation criteria, you will be covered for a wide range of unexpected events by our Credit Card Travel Insurance policy.

Our current provider is no longer providing travel insurance and we have appointed AIG to be the new provider for our ASB Visa Platinum Rewards Travel Insurance, from 1 June 2023. You can view the new policy here.

If you have a trip planned, the provider handling your claim will be based on the date the claim event occurs, regardless of whether your claim is for pre-trip cancellation, or an event that occurs overseas.

Claims prior to 1 June 2023

You will be covered by the Chubb Life policy.

Claims on or after 1 June 2023

Claims will be handled by AIG.

Policy changes outlined

We have tried to keep changes to a minimum but there are some changes that may affect you. We recommend you review the policy wording in full prior to each and every trip to ensure cover meets your individual requirements.

  • Cover for pandemics and epidemics
There is no cover for border closures, lockdowns, or any government actions taken in response to epidemics or pandemics. You may be  covered under Section 1: Medical and Evacuation Expenses or Section 2: Cancellation and Changes to Planned Travel if you are medically diagnosed with an epidemic or pandemic illness, including COVID-19. Coverage is subject to the terms and conditions of the insurance policy, including any applicable limitations and exclusions.
  • Additional activation requirement for Benefit 5 Scheduled Transport Accident
This benefit will only apply if you have paid for the full value of the Scheduled Transport ticket using your Platinum card. If you haven't met this new requirement, it does not affect your eligibility for cover under any other benefits, including Benefit 4, Personal Accident.
  • New sanctions exclusion?
We follow all applicable laws and regulations within New Zealand and overseas that relate to trade, economic, financial or other sanctions. AIG will not provide any coverage or make any payment that would breach any sanctions law or regulation.
