For how long should I fix my home loan?
Last Updated: 13 Jan 2017
The length of your fixed term rate is part of your overall decision about whether to have a fixed, variable or split loan. The longer the term, the longer you have certainty of the rate and your repayments. The tradeoff is that you may have to pay an Early Repayment Adjustment Fee should you wish to break prior to the end of the fixed term.
Our ASB Economist produces a report called the Home Loan Rates Report. It provides a summary of interest rate movements along with some advantages and disadvantages of the rates on offer. You’ll find the latest report here.
