What does pending verification, suspended and default status mean on my Google Pay tile In the ASB Mobile app?

Last Updated: 28 May 2019

ASB provides a status icon and text for customers on the Google Pay tile within the ASB Mobile app to show customers what their Google Pay status is.

Status: "Pending verification"

An ASB card was added to Google Pay but further verification is needed. Either a onetime passcode from your ASB Netcode registered mobile phone is required to be entered or contacting the ASB Contact Centre for I.D. verification.

To complete this process from the ASB Mobile app, simply tap on the Google Pay device tile to reach the Device details screen. If the status is “Pending verification”, you will see there is a “Verify” link on this screen. Tap this link and follow the prompts to complete the verification process.

Status: “Suspended”

An ASB card is suspended by ASB and cannot be currently used as payment method for Google Pay. Please call us on 0800 803 804, or from overseas call us during New Zealand business hours (international toll charges apply) on +64 9 306 3000.

Status: Default

An ASB Visa card is set as the default payment card for any Google Pay transactions. Only one card or account can be set as the default card at any given time.

If you have Google Pay loaded on more than one ASB card, you can change the default card in the ASB app by clicking on the Google Pay tile in the cards and devices screen on the card that is not currently set as default, then tapping on the “set as default” option.

If you wish to use a different ASB card to make a one off purchase, but do not wish to set it as default, you can do this by:

  1. Opening the Google Pay app.
  2. At the top of the screen, on your card, swipe left until you find the card you want to use.
  3. Pay as normal, by holding the back of your phone against the contactless payment terminal.
  4. When the payment is made, your phone will beep or vibrate
  5. If prompted, choose ‘Credit’ regardless of your type of card.

For transactions over NZ$80 in New Zealand, you will be asked to enter your card PIN on the terminal. The terminal will indicate if the transaction has been successful.
