What is an off-market transfer of shares?

Last Updated: 04 Sep 2014

An off-market transfer of shares is a change of ownership from one name to another, done privately through the share registry rather than traded on the share market using a broker.

An example of an off-market transfer might be a share transfer from joint names or a company, to an individual or a trust.
