How are payments made to my credit card when I have a balance transfer or Smart Rate purchase?
Last Updated: 26 Oct 2016
When a payment is made to an ASB credit card account, the payment is allocated to transaction types according to a particular order. If you have completed a balance transfer or Smart Rate purchase, payments made to your account will be applied to interest, charges, cash advances and purchases (other than Smart Rate purchases) before balance transfers and Smart Rate purchases.
If you have many balance transfers and/or Smart Rate purchases, they are paid in order of highest to lowest interest rate. If they are the same interest rate, balance transfers are paid before Smart Rate purchases.
Please refer to the 'Allocation of payments' sections of the Credit Card Conditions of Use for full details.
