What proof of ID do I need to open a new account?

Last Updated: 02 Apr 2024

If you are a new customer to ASB, you’ll need to provide proof of your identity and residential address. This is a legal requirement to protect you and ASB.

The information you supply should be current and original. You can often provide proof of ID and address online using the ASB ID app. We can also accept copies certified by a trusted referee if required.

Documentation in a foreign language must be accompanied by an independent and certified English translation provided to you by a professional translator.

For any additional queries, call our Contact Centre on 0800 803 804, vist your nearest ASB branch or contact your ASB Relationship Manager.

If you are opening a personal account, we have different guides depending on who is opening and operating the account.  Select the appropriate guide below:

If you are opening a personal account for yourself and are 13 or older: Identification Requirements – Individual

If you are a parent/guardian opening a personal account for someone under 18 years of age: Identification Requirements – Parent and child

If you are opening a business account, depending on the entity type that requires the account, particular information is required. Select the appropriate guide below:

Identification Requirements – Limited Company

Identification Requirements – Trust

Identification Requirements – Incorporated Society

Identification Requirements – Unincorporated Society

Identification Requirements – Partnership

Identification Requirements – Limited Partnership

If you are already an ASB customer and are registered for internet banking, you can open an account in FastNet Classic without providing further ID. If you’re not already registered, and would like to be, see our guide on joining Fastnet Classic.
