Will my car insurance cover any modifications I’ve made to my car?
Last Updated: 18 Oct 2022
It depends on the type of modification your car has and whether you’ve told us about it.
If you have an ASB Private Motor Vehicle Insurance policy, you need to tell us about every modification.
If you have an ASB Car Insurance policy, you only need to tell us about vehicle modifications that we ask about and that are listed on your policy schedule. Anything outside of what we ask about will be covered automatically, so long as you’ve allowed for it in your sum insured.
In most cases we try to provide cover, however depending on the number and type of modifications you apply we may add an extra excess or condition. Not letting us know about a car modification could mean we decline your claim.
