Is the ASB ID app safe to use?
Yes it is. The app scans your e-passport and face, and we forward that information to our trusted third-party providers who confirm a match in seconds. This is similar to the process used by an eGate at the airport. If you do not have an e-passport you can also use your New Zealand driver licence. We have exceptionally high security standards. We also constantly review and renew our security processes and safeguards. We comply with the Privacy Act 2020, and seek your consent before sending your information.
All of our online services, including the ASB ID app, have many layers of security. We and our trusted third party providers use strong encryption to protect your information and our third party providers only retain your information for a short period of time. The ASB ID app is also protected by the same unique username and password as internet banking.
If you have any concerns, you can confirm your identity at any ASB branch.
