What excess applies to my car insurance?
Last Updated: 03 Feb 2023
An excess is the amount that you contribute towards a claim. More than one excess may apply to a claim. If you make a claim and it's accepted, we deduct the applicable excesses from the amount of your claim, or from the benefit limit in the policy wording if that is less.
There are two different types of excess for your Car Insurance policy:
Vehicle excess
This excess applies to any claim that you make. You can choose a higher or lower excess. By choosing a higher excess, your policy premium will generally be lower.
Driver excess
A driver excess may also apply to your claim based on who was using the car at the time of the incident.
