Can joint account holders make changes to a joint account without both agreeing to it?
Last Updated: 20 Aug 2021
It depends on how you have specified the account should be operated.
1. You do not require more than one account holder to operate your joint account:
In this case ASB will make payments, allow withdrawals, close an account, give information or do anything else we’ve been asked to do by either of the account holders.
2. You have specified that two or more joint account holders are required to operate the account:
In this case you must give ASB instructions on your joint account together. However there are some basic maintenance functions that you’ll be able to do individually. These include requesting information on transactions, saving payees and ordering a statement.
